Reviewing your new website
How to Use Markup.io
A quick guide to leaving feedback on your new site. Click a spot, type what you want changed, and we handle the rest. No account, no software, no long emails.

When your new site is ready for review, we’ll send you a Markup.io link. Markup is a simple feedback tool that lets you leave comments directly on your website, like sticky notes pinned to the exact spot you’re talking about. There’s no account to make and no software to install. You click the spot, type what you want changed, and we see it pinned right there.

Your website inside Markup.io. You can comment on it just by clicking.

Opening your review link

Click the Markup link we send you. It opens in your web browser and looks just like your normal website, except now you can click around and leave notes on it. You can join as a guest, so there’s nothing to sign up for.

For the smoothest experience, open it on a laptop or desktop. You can review on a phone, but commenting is easier with a mouse and a bigger screen.

The two modes: Comment and Browse

There’s a small toggle at the top center of the screen that switches between two modes. This is the one thing worth understanding before you start.

Comment Mode is for leaving feedback. When you’re in this mode, clicking anywhere on the page drops a pin and opens a box for your note. This is where you’ll spend most of your time.

Browse Mode lets you move around the site like a regular visitor. Use this when you want to click a menu item, scroll to another page, or follow a link without dropping pins everywhere.

To move to a different page, switch to Browse Mode and click your site’s own menu and links. Don’t type an address into your browser’s bar to jump around inside the review, it won’t track your spot correctly. Navigate using the buttons and menu built into the page itself.

Leaving a comment

This is the main thing you’ll do:

Your pin stays attached to that spot, so we know exactly what you mean. Repeat this as many times as you need across the page. If you ever drop a pin in the wrong place, just click and drag it to the right spot.

You can also highlight a specific piece of text and leave your comment on it. This is the easiest way to flag a typo or request a wording change. Just select the words and type the fix.

Click a spot, type your note, and post. The paperclip lets you attach a file, and the camera lets you record a quick video.

Want to swap a photo or show us an example?

When you leave a comment, look for the paperclip icon in the comment box. Click it to attach a file or image right there in the note. If you’d rather we use a different photo, upload the replacement and we’ll drop it straight in. That’s much faster than emailing files separately and trying to explain which one goes where.

Reviewing on phone and tablet

Near the top left of the screen you’ll see three icons for desktop, tablet, and phone views, all without leaving your computer. This is handy for checking how the site looks on mobile, since that’s how most of your customers will find you.

Good to know: comments you leave on the desktop view don’t carry over to the phone or tablet views. If something looks off specifically on mobile, switch to that view first, then leave your comment there.

Check the desktop, tablet, and phone views from these icons.

Keeping track of your notes

Every comment you leave shows up in the list on the left side of the screen, so you can scroll back through everything you’ve flagged. As we work through your feedback, we mark each note resolved, so you can always see what’s been handled and what’s still open.

Tips for feedback that's easy to act on

A few things that help us turn your notes around quickly and get them right the first time:

What happens next

Once you’ve gone through the site and left your comments, click “Let the team know you finished reviewing” at the bottom of the comment list. That tells us you’re done with that round. We’ll work through every pin, make the changes, and send the link back so you can confirm everything looks right. We’ll go back and forth like this until your site is exactly how you want it.

If you get stuck or have a question that doesn’t fit in a pin, just reach out to us directly and we’ll help.

Your comments collect here. When you’re done, click the button at the bottom to let us know.
